Year 8 French Excursion to ACMI:
On Tuesday 21 August all the Year 8 students who study French took the train to ACMI to watch a film called ‘L’école buissonière’, which in English is known as ‘The School of Life’.
The movie is set in 1923, through the natural and lovely landscape of the country estate in Sologne where Célestine adopts Paul, a young boy whose father died during the war and his mother died during childbirth.
Throughout the film, Paul becomes friends with a so called poacher ‘Totoche’, who teaches him a lot of skills, including how to count out how many 'points' on a deer’s antlers - which eventually helped him out as he soon came across a deer with '18 point' antlers thought to be a mere legend. Overall, this film was beautiful and highly enjoyable.

VCE French Exams Revision Seminar:
As an annual event, on the last Sunday of August, the AFTV (Association of French Teachers in Victoria) offers a revision seminar to assist all students across the state to better prepare for their upcoming Oral Exams in October, as well as their written exams in November. This year the seminar took place on Sunday 26 August. The session was broken up into several smaller presentations including live practice of different parts of the exams (i.e. Listening, Reading, Writing and Role-plays of what to do/don’t do for the Oral part). One of the presenters was student, Anand Bharadwaj who obtained a perfect score of 50; he humbly shared tips and strategies that contributed towards his success. I hope that this will further motivate students for their individual preparation.
Here are what Elizabeth and Alex had to say about the session.
Alex: “The trip to the city for the exam revision seminar was very useful in not only helping me to understand how all the exams work, but also to build confidence.”
Elizabeth: “I personally enjoyed the workshop. ’La matinee du Français’ was a rewarding and beneficial seminar, which further consolidated our understanding of the structure and various components of the VCE French Exam requirements for the end of Year 12.”
