News from Around the School

Sports News
Yesterday, eight of our Grade Six students represented Queen of Peace at the Primary Schools Regional Netball Championships in the Mixed Division. The competition was fierce and some of the teams played incredibly well. Queen of Peace was one of those teams. All of the students' behaviour and sportsmanship was also a credit to themselves and their families. Unfortunately, Queen of Peace has not advanced to the State Finals, however, watch out Australia for some of your future champions coming from Queen of Peace. Thank you also to the parent help that was given and the washing of uniforms throughout the progress of this team. - Christine Marshall, Physical Education Teacher
Jump Rope for Heart
This year our school is participating in Jump Rope for Heart - a fantastic physical activity and fundraising program by the Heart Foundation that has been running for 35 years. It is a great way for your child to keep fit and learn new skills and it also helps raise funds for vital heart research and education programs. Register your child online so they can receive full benefits of the program and participate in online fundraising. Sign your child up at www.jumprope.org.au More details regarding the 'Jump Off' day in September will be announced closer to the time. - Loren O'Toole, Classroom Teacher
Reporting Student Absences
Thank you to the parents who are now using Flexibuzz to advise students absences. If you are having trouble with this App, please come in to the school office and we will help you.
The school is required to notify parents as soon as is practicable, whenever their child is marked absent without explanation. Please note, if your child is not in their classroom at 9am they will be marked absent. If your child is going to miss school for any reason, it is important that you use Flexibuzz to advise the school before 9am. Click on the ABSENCE tab and fill in a quick form, including their class and reason for absence. The option to leave a phone message has been phased out. If we have not been notified of your child’s absence, a parent/carer will receive a text notification.
Dogs in School Grounds
This afternoon we had a parent bring a dog to school when picking up their children. A reminder that we do not allow dogs in school grounds, even if they are on a leash.

Book Parade
This year's theme is Find Your Treasure. Families are all very welcome to join us for our Book Parade on Thursday 23 August which will be held in the hall from around 9am. Following the parade, students will gather in their grades to celebrate their treasures. We will have a follow-up activity in classrooms until 11am, using the short-listed books. Families are also welcome to stay and join in these activities if they wish. Here are a few ideas for you to dress-up your child/children in:
- Treasures of the past: dinosaurs, queens, knights
- Treasures of fantasy land: elves, fairies, unicorns
- Treasures of the universe: sky, birds, clouds
- Treasures of Neverland: pirates, Peter Pan
- Treasures on Mars: astronauts
- or discover your next book to treasure and share your treasure!

Parent School Improvement Survey
On Monday, the oldest child in each family brought home information on how to complete the Parent School Improvement Survey. The main aim of the survey is to identify the strengths and areas for development of our school. The results will benefit everyone within the school community by providing valuable information about the ways in which Queen of Peace can be improved. This survey may only be completed once. Therefore, if you have more than one child at this school it is important to only focus on one child whilst filling in this survey. The online survey can be accessed until Friday 24 August.
If you would prefer a paper copy of the survey, please contact the school office. We appreciate your support with this survey.

Seeking Canteen Volunteers
The School Canteen needs your help! Volunteers are a vital part of ensuring children get their lunches on time. There are no special skills required. Volunteers help our Canteen Manager, Mrs Antoinette Kelly prepare lunch orders for the children. The canteen is open each weekday and helpers are usually required between 10am–2pm. If you are unable to commit to the full four hours, perhaps you could help out for one or two hours instead. A roster is organised each term for volunteers and all help is appreciated. Forms to respond can be found on FlexiBuzz.
Wanted: old phones and batteries
Wanted old batteries and phones. Grade 2 will takes these items to CERES to be recycled. Please send any items to the office by Tuesday 14 August.
