New Sports Shed and Mural
You will remember that earlier this year we sadly had to remove the beautiful large tree on our fence line which had been damaged in a storm towards the end of 2019.
The large limb lost during this storm not only crushed our fence but also left the rest of the tree unbalanced and presented an unacceptable risk of further lost limbs (potentially over our school yard or caretaker's cottage).
Whilst we miss the tree and the welcome shade it provided, we have been able to creatively use the space to build a brand new sports shed which will make our PE lessons and school events much easier for staff and students.
The shed will hold all of our sports resources in one place and is accessible from both the yard and the oval. This will allow teachers to easily get to the things they need during sports lessons and events such as run club, the walkathon and our athletics carnival.
With the shed almost complete, we will be celebrating its completion with a whole-school sports afternoon at 2:45pm on Wednesday 16th December. We will cut the ribbon on the shed, thank the parents who have made it a reality and then classes will get to use it by bringing out equipment so they can all play games on the oval. We would like to invite parents along to watch this event.
The shed build has been managed by the Buildings and Grounds sub-committee of School Council and I need to thank those parents who have donated their time, expertise and tools to build this ourselves. These parents have been Paul Yates, Greg Manonian, Bas Henry, Damon Van Horne, Mathew Saliba, Michael Gale, Robbie Cappuccio, Nemanja Milovanovic, Marko Vukobrat, Andres Lopez Vidal, Monika Schlect and Peter Montgomery.
We are also excited that the walls of the shed provide a blank canvas for more art in our school. Bianca Loiacono will be working with our soon to depart Year 6 students next week to create a mural as a legacy of their time at SKiPPS. This mural will face the amazing mural on the end wall of our Performing Arts room, also completed by Bianca and a group of students back in 2017.
