St Brigid's News and Events

RE News

Wednesday 1st February we celebrated the Feast of St Brigid and the Beginning of the Year Mass. St Brigid of Kildare is the patroness of those who have a care for the earth, for justice and equality, for peace and reconciliation. She is a model for a contemplative life.

Brigidines, colleagues, partners and friends were invited and encouraged to participate in the Pause for Peace movement yesterday on the 1st February 2023.

Pause for Peace is an initiative of the Solas Bhríde Team, who has joined with Into Kildare  and the residents of Kildare, ‘to call on people all around the world to stop for a minute’s silence. We did this yesterday at 12.00 noon.

The movement aims to awaken and build a spirit of global solidarity in our search for peace – on a day that honours  the legacy of St Brigid, Woman of Peace.

Beginning this year, the people of Ireland will enjoy an annual national holiday in honour of St Brigid, – on the Monday following St Brigid’s Day.

Introducing Deb Gosselin

Hello, my name is Deb and I am really excited about joining St Brigid's this year and being a part of the Learning Support Team.  I will spend most of my time with the seniors in 5/6. Summer is my favourite season, the beach is my happy place and I LOVE chocolate!!

Introducing Moria du Preez

I am really excited about starting my Primary School teaching career in Australia and even more so at St Brigid’s! I have a beautiful class of Year 6’s and can’t wait to get to know, teach, support, and see each learner grow throughout the school year.

I value honesty, hard work and fairness and will always have each child’s best interest at heart. I love the outdoors, camping, exploring this wonderful country and the colour green!

I am looking forward to a wonderful year at St Brigid's!

Introducing Lauren Eccles

I’m so excited to start my primary teaching journey at St Brigid’s as a graduate teacher. I have previously worked in early childhood teaching for almost 20 years as an educator, nanny and Centre Director. I am also a qualified personal trainer, group fitness and Pilates instructor and gymnastics coach. My favourite subjects to teach are maths and science, and helping children develop a love of learning in all areas. In my free time I love baking, reading & participating in gymnastics and cheer leading.

Introducing Kate Sleeth

From the moment I walked into St Brigid's Primary School as a substitute teacher last year, I knew this was the community I wanted to be a part of.  I'm so excited to be continuing my 16 year journey as a teacher here this year!  I have taught in both Secondary and Primary schools, spending 9 years working overseas in both Germany and China.  I love asking questions, inquiry based learning and have a passion for developing reading and writing.  In my spare time (when I am not injured), I play field hockey at Southern United Hockey Club and run half marathons (the goal is one a year until I'm 60) and travel.
