Music

A great start to step-up

What an amazing way to start step-up with our very first VCE Music Class ‘in discussion’ with The Australian String Quartet.  Starting with the premiere performance of Music Captain, Millie Davidson’s recently composed miniature string quartet, entitled Blood Moon, performed by the Australian String Quartet, the discussion featured performances and covered topics from Guadagnini instruments to inspirations and pathways from childhood to careers as professional musicians.  This was an eye opener and a great way to kick off the new class.

We have been blessed to have the ASQ ‘in residence’ this week, commencing with a vibrant and in-depth workshop afterschool on Monday, extension lessons Tuesday, staff professional learning and leadership discussions, VCE seminar and finishing with a most delightful concert.  Sharing the stage with the ASQ were our ‘fabulous four’ violinists from Myrniong, Arshi Woosantia, Angus Reid, Hugo Cameron and Andrew Sun, who performed Telemann’s Concerto for Four Violins and Lachlan Reid with Piazolla’s fiery Libertango.  This visit has become a greatly valued pillar in the College calendar, and we look forward to future collaborations.

The Junior School Speech Day on Friday, 9 December will showcase our Myrniong musicians as they celebrate their year in the Simons Auditorium.

Finally, we return to our advent home at St. Andrew’s on Monday December 12th at 7pm to welcome Christmas.
