Miss Mel's Message

Principal - St Brigid's Primary School

Week 9, Term 4

Two weeks to go, and so many exciting things happening within the community, and no doubt within your families, with the lead-up to Christmas. Please check the Office News page of the newsletter for details of all of the upcoming events and fun.

We have the St Brigid’s Mini Market on the St Brigid’s grass area on Sunday from 9am. Set up from 8am. Helpers and guests welcome. It is set to be a hot one, so please ensure your children have sunscreen and a hat.

Carols at Dixon Field are on this Sunday evening - again this set to be a hot evening, and a fun event. Singing begins at 6pm. All are welcome to attend. A whole school invitation has been sent out.

Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, we will not be able to enter in the Gisborne Festival Parade this year. Next year we will endeavour to gather parent feedback on the plethora of community events available to us at this time of year and choose those events that you value the most. All are wonderful, however, it is not always possible to commit to all of them every year. We thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Today we had the whole school orientation and students met their class teachers and classmates. We ask that you talk positively with your child about their groupings, and support them in making connections with new friends, and the experience of learning with new teachers. We are also here to assist children to feel comfortable with their new class.

Staff spent many long hours over the last few weeks putting classes together. The class groupings were based on one friend being given from the child’s list, that was made in conjunction with parents, as per previous protocols at St Brigid’s. Groupings also took into consideration other elements besides friendships to ensure classes were balanced academically, behaviourally, socially and emotionally. We will ensure that students are supported to make friends in their new class. At St Brigid’s we have shared learning experiences, and flexible groupings throughout the day, across different subject areas, which enables all of our students to work with other classes and teachers at different times throughout the year.

We will be listening to our Year 5’s give their leadership speeches on Monday 5th December, between 9 and 11am. This will be held in the Learning Street. All welcome.
