PREP , YEAR 1 AND YEAR 2 AT THE FARM

As part of their Faith Based Inquiry Unit ‘Design” Prep’s,  Year One and Year Two enjoyed a fabulous day at the farm. They learnt about farm animals and the many products we get from farm animals. The students really enjoyed the many opportunities to touch and feed the animals. It also provided a great experience to write about. Here are some of the Prep’s highlights of the day.

We went to the farm and it was fantastic. My favourite was when the little goat ate my jacket. I was patting lots of goats. There were big goats too.  Written by Eleanor

The Prep’s, Year Ones and Year Two’s went to the farm. We fed the animals and milked the cows. I liked the bus ride to the farm.  Written by Theodora

We went to the farm. It was spectacular. I loved milking the cow. I also loved feeding the goats. I touched two rabbits and one guinea pig. I was scared to feed the camels. Written by Camyra

YARRA TRAMS INCURSION - Year 5 and Year 6

We never knew that there is an app on your phone which allows you to select a minimum and top-up value amount of money just by scanning your Myki with your phone. We learnt at the Yarra Trams incursion that fines can go up to Seventy five dollars for children and two hundred and seventy seven dollars for adults. There are two hundred kilometres of track in Melbourne which is like running six full marathons. Those two hundred kilometres of track are home to Melbourne's whopping four hundred and twenty five trams.

Now for a brain twister, so slow down and read carefully. If you get on a tram in the free tram zone in the city you can travel for free, (the hint is in the name) but if you leave the free tram zone on the tram you have to touch on your Myki, so pay attention and don’t forget to touch on after leaving the zone or you could end up in a tricky situation, including fines up to seventy seven dollars for children and two hundred and seventy seven for adults. The first electric tram was on the Melbourne tracks all the way back in 1899, one hundred and twenty nine years after Captain Cook came to the shores of Sydney and declared it Terra Nullius meaning, no man's land. So in one hundred and twenty nine short years, Melbourne has developed so much to hosting electric trams.

YEAR 2 SLEEPOVER

On Thursday the 24th of November the Year Two’s came back to school at 6:30 in their Pyjamas with a pillow and sleeping bag ready for a sleepover! We watched a movie in the Year 5 classroom and had hot chocolate. After our hot chocolate we sat around the campfire and shared our favourite teddy bear. We then brushed our teeth and set up our sleeping bags ready for bedtime. It was great fun having all the Year two’s stay at school. We learnt more about each other and our lovely teachers!

SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL

Expressions of Interest

At the request of the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) board – our governing body, St Mary’s Primary School has established a School Advisory Council to support the Principal, Parish Priest and Leadership Team of the school.  At the conclusion of this year we farewell some members and invite new members to apply.

While no particular expertise is required, the school seeks people with a range of diverse skill sets to best advise the principal, united by a desire to provide the best possible education for our students.

A balanced membership with parent voice on the School Advisory Council is well-placed to advise the principal about important matters, particularly those related to the school’s Mission and students’ success.

The needs of the council will be given priority in terms of ensuring a balance of gender, cultural diversity and skill sets.

Therefore, we are calling on you to express your interest in being part of the School Advisory Council. If you are a member of the parish or have children in the school and wish to be part of this exciting development, we would welcome your application in writing to Cathy Ferrari by Thursday 8th December 2022.
