Premier’s ANZAC Spirit School Prize Award Ceremony

Last term, Year 10 Vinka Lakic was announced as a winner in the Premier’s ANZAC Spirit School Prize for 2022. Vinka was among the 20 award winners selected from more than 1000 entries received this year.

On Monday 21 November, Vinka was presented with her awards at the Adelaide Town Hall, with 19 other recipients from various South Australian schools, by the Minister of Education, The Hon. Blair Boyer, MP.

Once again, the College community heartily congratulates Vinka on her outstanding achievement. We look forward to hearing more about the preparations she will be making for her study trip to Darwin with the other awardees in April next year.

Platinum Jubilee Tree Planting

This year the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, including Australia, marked the Platinum Jubilee of the late Queen Elizabeth II. The Australian Government has been supporting a range of community events to honour and celebrate this milestone of the Queen’s service to us over a phenomenal and unmatched period of 70 years.

To mark this significant event, the College applied for a grant under the Australian Government’s ‘Plant a Tree for The Jubilee’ initiative to honour the Queen and her legacy. An appropriate species of tree was selected for planting – in this case, a Golden Wattle, the floral emblem of Australia.

Last Friday the College community came together for a short assembly to dedicate the tree. The Federal Member for Makin, Mr Tony Zappia, who originally endorsed the College’s grant application, performed the dedication. The State Member for Florey, Mr Michael Brown, and Endeavour Board Member Nick Maloney were also in attendance.

We hope that this small tree planted in recognition of Elizabeth II’s seventy years as Queen and Head of the Commonwealth will serve as a permanent and living reminder of her significant achievements and public service, as well as enhance our environment and community well-being into the future.

Village and Co-Curricular Leaders 2023

Year 11 students have shown courage and strength by recently applying for Co-Curricular and Village Leadership positions. Through the interview process they reflected on their talents and strengths, considered areas for development, and shared their vision, ideas and passion for service and leadership through this process. Their desire to make a difference and give back to the College was impactful. While not all were successful in attaining a role, I hope that all students gained from the experience.

I encourage those students who do not have a formal leadership role to look for opportunities to extend themselves as I know they have excellent leadership capabilities and they must be shared! Their graciousness in disappointment was commendable and I know they will do everything to support those students in the formal positions. This approach is truly appreciated and the best act of leadership.

I certainly felt blessed to have grown in my knowledge of each student in this personal way as have all the staff who were involved in the process.

I am confident that many students discovered new talents and strengths and have deepened their awareness of who they are and the influence they can have. Only when they know what makes them so unique and special can they fully embrace and make use of their special talents. We certainly have a lot to look forward to in 2023 with this cohort.

For those students who have been successful and gained a leadership position for 2023 we hope and pray that they will make use of their leadership to lift others up as God intended and leave a lasting and positive legacy.

Congratulations to the following students in their co-curricular and Village leadership positions for 2023.
