Music Department  Wrap Up

End of Year Concert                                                                                                                                     Back in November, we were entertained by our Instrumental Music students who show case their talents. Whist it wasn't all that long ago that we were treated to the Mid-year concert, it was safe to say that there had been a lot of hard work and diligence in the latter half of the year. Which was evident across all levels.

That diligence was acknowledged with the following students receiving awards.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             YEAR 7 BAND AWARD

To the dedicated and extremely helpful Music Support Group - the level of support that you provide to the Music Program is outstanding. To all of the music staff, band students, parents and friends for your continued support. To Ben Christie for lighting and audio.

To Rob Humphrey and family for their continued support in providing the J.M.S Humphrey award, presented to an outstanding year 12 music student since 1987. To Rebecca Younger for her assistance with promoting the WHS Music Program in the school and local community. Lastly, to our departing year 12 students: thank you for your commitment and effort during your time at WHS. We wish you all the very best for the future and hope that you look back on your many lessons, rehearsals, camps, tours and performances as fond memories.

Symphonic Band Tour

This week our Symphonic Band has been on tour of Inverloch and surrounds. The tour kicked off with a gig at Fish Creek Primary school in front of an audience of 120, this was followed by an afternoon performance in front of 440 Wonthaggi Primary school students. The band, along with Jenny and Scott had the audience singing along, up dancing, and even a select few chosen students conducting the band! The weather kept the group busy, often setting and packing up in torrential rain, and even hail, despite this, students rose admirably to the challenges the weather presented.

We received a lovely email from a local resident today - “Please pass on to your Music Department and student musicians a heartfelt thanks for brightening an otherwise dreary day weather wise with their wonderful music. I was practicing bowls at the Inverloch BC this morning and heard music coming from the sound shell in the Glades. I packed up and went to the Glades to be treated to a wonderful performance. The staff and students have obviously been dedicated to keeping their passion for music alive during the last two years of interrupted learning. Musicians have had their own form of therapy -music- and it must be a joy to once again perform live as a group. The weather for their tour has not been kind, but hopefully everyone has enjoyed the coastal scenery”.

Well done to all the students and staff.
