Faith and Mission Report

“Because he gave his complete attention to anyone who talked to him, Jules Chevalier seemed to have no other business than the topic of conversation”

As the year finishes up, it is important to take time to listen to those around us, and appreciate the wisdom that our students can impart on us.

On Friday November 18th, the Year 12 Graduation Mass and Dinner took place. During the Mass, presided by Father Ted McCormack, msc, members of our 2022 Year 12 class spoke beautifully.  Ryan Ackerley and Kade McCallum were the MCs for the Mass, and Zara Kruger spoke on what it meant to her being an MSC student.

Zara said that being MSC “means that we’re part of something, something uniquely strong, something that’s going to change the world”. It was pleasing to hear our newest “Old Collegians” looking forward to embracing the new challenges that the world has in store.

Later in the evening, when school was finally over for all the Year 12s, some found the prospect of moving to the next stage a little daunting. The knowledge that they will always be listened to and supported by Monivae as Old Collegians made these concerns a little less stressful.

All of our students have much to offer the world when listened to. Our Christmas tree was set up in the foyer, but our students thought it was important that more people saw the Christmas tree and gift giving hence it was re-located to the Library. As a result, more gifts were given for the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal. A wonderful initiative by the students involved.

Our Christmas Mass with Father Paddy Mugavin had a particular festive feel to it, with students being involved heavily in the choice of music and hymns. The idea of giving was on display when Old Collegian Charlie Alexander donated his 10kg block of chocolate, which was “raffled” off for free amongst our students and staff.

On Tuesday next week, our 2023 Year 7 Cohort will have their first Liturgy in the College Chapel, where new conversations will begin.
