Boarding

Welcome to Our New Boarders

We welcome Tommy Wang (Yr10) and Johnny Chen (Yr8) to Speirs House. Tommy is from Beijing, plays tennis and is a rock drummer. Johnny is a fan of table tennis and plays the bass guitar. Both boys have settled in well and have quickly organised themselves for the term ahead.

A Returning Student and New Boarder - Ned McArthur

Ned has returned to College after a brief stint away. He has also become a boarder and we are delighted to have him with us. This week we have welcomed Ned back to “home” and are looking forward to seeing him possibly in the rowing boat or on the basketball court soon.

Success on the Sporting Arena

This week we have been able to celebrate some remarkable achievements on the sporting arena from our Macdonald House boarders. Our girls set the bar high with their determination and drive to achieve their best, and it pays in dividends. Grace Austin (Yr10) and Eliza Jagger (Yr11) have both been selected in the Western Waves U/17 Youth Premier League Cricket Team, after significant practice and training. Congratulations girls and we are certainly looking

forward to watching and hearing about your success on the cricket pitch.

Last weekend, Phoebe Russell (Yr8) attended the Hawthorn Hockey Club presentation evening in Melbourne. The Hawthorn Hockey club is a premier league division club with many national and international players represented, including past Olympic representatives. Phoebe, who is only in Year 8, was awarded the Hawthorn Premier League Reserves Open Women Best and Fairest. This is an outstanding achievement for such a young player and promises a fantastic future in the sport. Congratulations Phoebe.

Parkrun

Many will know we have begun a new initiative of boarders’ weekend activities for Term 4. Last weekend, we were pleased to see so many of our boarders participate with Gail Mcgregor in our local Parkrun. Parkrun is a 5km run, jog, or walk, around Lake Hamilton each Saturday starting at 8am. Each boarder registered for the run and can now track their own progress each week at any Parkrun in the world. Well done to Tyler Hately (Yr9), Fergus Roberts (Yr10), Emily Clark (Yr10), Wes Gray (Yr9) and Ally Gray (Yr10) who all gave it a go and supported the community.

Giving Blood

Supporting others and the community was again something our girls’ boarding captain, Nikita Cavill, enjoyed during the recent holidays. Alongside Tara Sullivan (Yr12), Hannah Russell (Yr12) and Lauren Richards (Yr12), she bravely and selflessly gave blood at the mobile blood bank. The girls all appreciated that the little effort they gave in donating blood went a long way in directly saving lives.
