Term 2 Summary
Term 2 has been an extremely busy time in the sports program with all apart from two weeks having at least one sports event. Term 2 Sports included Soccer, Australian Rules, Badminton, Netball and Cross Country within the Knox competition. It was also exciting to have multiple teams competing at Region and State level.
Special congratulations to the Intermediate Baseball Team and Grace Flanagan (Cross Country) for making it to the State Finals. An outstanding achievement. You can read more about the baseball team in this newsletter, and we wish Grace all the best for the state finals in Term 3.
I would also like to congratulate the following teams who won their division and will compete in EMR in Term 3.
- Senior Girls Soccer
- Senior Boys and Girls Badminton
- Intermediate Boys and Girls Badminton
- Year 8 Boys Badminton
- Year 7 and Boys Badminton
- Senior Netball Boys
- Junior Netball Boys
I would again like to thank the teachers who volunteer their time to coach and train the students and the many student coaches who have assisted the teams.
Sports Review
Over the past semester I have been reviewing the Wantirna College Sporting Program to develop goals for improvement. Throughout this process I have received feedback from staff and students regarding the current program. I am now seeking Parent Feedback on the program. I have added a feedback form on Compass for Parents who would like to have input with ideas and assistance within the program.

State Baseball
On Wednesday 30th May the Wantirna College Intermediate Baseball team headed to Cheltenham Baseball Club for the 2018 State Finals. This was a huge achievement by the team as this meant back to back state appearances but also because the team was made up of solely Year 9 students in a Year 9 & 10 competition.
The team was made up for the following students.
Nichloas Ascenzo, Michael Aulesbrook, Luke Bithell, Liam Chown, Max Fiscalini, Lane Heppell, Lachlan McCarthy, Cheyton Perez, Luke Plumridge, Jai Sandbrink, Kurtis Smith, Darshan Varsani, and Rorey Wright.
In the competition we were placed in a pool against Parkdale SC, Strathmore SC, and Chairo Christian College. In each of our games we were competitive and showed an ability to score runs, however, as we couldn’t stem the flow of runs from the other teams, Wantirina end with 2 losses and 1 draw.
We look forward to 2019 when the team becomes top aged (Year 10) and hopefully they can take it a step further. Thank you to Mr Hoogkamer and James Keam (Year 11) for coaching and supporting the team.
