Year 9 Lifestyle Classes

Peninsula Obstacle Racing Course
On Wednesday 13th June the Year 9 Lifestyle Boys and Girls classes went to the Peninsula Obstacle Racing Course. In the lead up to this excursion both classes undertook activities such as circuit training, gym work and much more to improve their overall fitness. I was a part of the Boys Lifestyle class, who during this past semester have learnt about how the muscular and skeletal systems work and how to develop certain areas of our bodies. These lessons also included practical work, to use this knowledge to help ourselves and others improve their fitness.
Finally the day came to go to the obstacle course and it was awesome. The first course we did was predominantly dry seeing as it was the Dry Course but was a great way to kick off the day. The Dry Course had many challenging activities such as climbing a large vertical wall without any ropes and crawling underneath barbed wire. Knowing every person had different capabilities, the group worked as a team to help each other make it to the end of each obstacle. After we finished the Dry Course we had a quick break and a small snack to regain energy for the Wet Course where we split into smaller groups to speed things up. The Wet Course started off reasonably dry until we made it to the dam where it got super wet and muddy. My group was the first to go through the obstacles so we had to lift nets and ropes out of the mud to get the other side of the obstacles. This was very hard work as the mud came up to our hips in some places making it very hard to move.
With lots of team work and motivation from each other everyone completed the course. Due to the mud and water we had warm showers in the facilities provided. After we changed into warm clothes, we had a sausage sizzle with drinks and all supplied by the teachers then went home. Overall the obstacle course was super fun to do and I would recommend it to anyone who is willing to get a bit dirty.

On Wednesday 13th June, the boys and girls Lifestyle Fitness classes went on an adventure, to say the least.
It was very cold that morning, I know that I am not the only one that tried to wear as many layers as possible that morning. We had a bus ride that lasted under an hour to get to our destination, Peninsula Obstacle Racing Course.
Us girls were off! Throughout this course we all helped support each other through the harder tasks, encourage each other to fight our fears and be there to catch each other when we fell (physically and mentally). During this course we had to; climb up tires, over walls, up ropes, over frames; jump over tires or logs; crawl under barbed wire, ropes, walls; and overall try and get over, under or through each thing together.
Next up was the Wet Course. Us girls did not expect how dirty we were going to get, until we saw the first mud obstacle. We were now split into smaller groups so that we could get through each obstacle quicker, and focus on spotting and making sure everyone in the small group is safe. In this course we did things such as crawl under wire in the mud, swim through lakes of mud, swing on monkey bars over mud, climb over mountains of dirt and mud and just overall try not to slip over and fall in.
Overall, the day was really fun for everyone and we all enjoyed the challenge. Something that not only the girls class, but the boys class as well, developed is a stronger sense of team work, and trust throughout both courses that we will now use in the rest of the time we have doing Lifestyle Fitness with them, but also out of class.
