Sports Report
Welcome back to everyone for what should be an exciting term of sport at the College. There will be plenty of House sports on offer for the students across all year levels at both lunchtimes and during House Afternoons. In local sport, we will be cheering on our Football and Hockey teams in the finals, the Soccer season continues and a new Basketball season commences next week.
Clay Target Shooting begins next Monday after school and once again this proves to be a popular sport at the school. The rowers will start preparing also for the summer regattas as they get together squads and crews and there is Football (both girls’ and boys’) to be played at Pedrina Park in the coming weeks. Our best Year 7-10 cricketers will also prepare for their Adelaide tour during the first week of the school holidays in September.
Our top netballers will represent the school at the annual Schoolgirls’ tournament in Geelong and our ICCES Cross Country runners will compete on the tough Bundoora Park course in Melbourne.
Speaking of cross country, we had 2 students compete in the All Schools’ Cross Country State Championships in Bundoora in June. Well done to Hannah Russell and Sam Crawford who both came midfield in their respective divisions.
The last week of Term Two was also a successful one in sport for our ICCES Winter Tour teams who travelled to Shepparton for the annual tournament. Congratulations to our senior male hockey team who won for the 4th year in a row while our top female players got the opportunity to compete for the first time which was exciting but so was their performance overall winning several games and coming fourth against predominantly male teams. The netballers and male basketball team also proved to be more than competitive against strong opposition – both teams coming fourth. This competition proves to be a highlight of the school year for the students and staff attending and all senior students should strive to be part of a potential team in future years.
Basketball
The HBA has finalised the teams for all competitions for the upcoming season. You can find College team lists on the notice board in the Sports Centre. Coaches will be in contact with their teams soon with regard to training.
All players must register and pay online at least 24 hours before their first game or you will not be able to take the court. If you played last season, you will only need to pay the HBA fee ($30 for students). New students will need to pay the BVC fee ($40.58) plus the HBA fee ($30 for students). To pay, follow the registration link on the HBA website. The website can be found at http://websites.sportstg.com/assoc_page.cgi?c=1-106-0-0-0
New players will need to purchase a uniform from the uniform shop before their game. The uniform shop is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They will have a list of available numbers for each team.

ICCES Girls' Hockey
History was made in the final days of Term 2 when an all girls hockey team competed at ICCES against predominately all male sides. The girls were certainly not intimidated recording 3 memorable victories and a draw. We were also the only side to score a goal in the preliminary rounds against our boys’ side! I was extremely proud of all the players, they took their hockey to the next level and I think many of them would say that this was their most enjoyable hockey experience.

Game 1: 2-1 victory vs Goulburn Valley Grammar. Goal scorers – Phoebe Sweeney/Hannah Russell
Game 2: 5-1 loss vs Hamilton College Boys. Goal Scorer – Maddy Rowe

ICCES Boys' Hockey
Once again, it was a delight to take the team away and the boys again responded by playing some superb hockey. We went through the first day undefeated, stumbled a little at the start of the second day but recovered to record a commanding victory in the final, winning the Shield for the fourth year in a row. Our results were as follows:
vs HAC girls 5-1 J.Sutherland 2, J.Read 2, F.Roberts
vs Girton 4-0 F.Roberts 2, J.Read, R.Simons
vs GVGS 6-0 J.Lee 2, S.Zehir 2, R.Simons, T.Nelson
vs Braemar 5-0 R.Simons 2, J.Lee, E.Zehir, D.Sweeney
vs Bacchus Marsh 4-0 F.Roberts, E.Zehir, R.Simons, J.Lee
vs Bacchus Marsh 1-1 S.Zehir
(3-4) (shoot-out: F.Roberts, J.Read, D.Sweeney)
vs Girton 5-0 F.Roberts 4, R.Simons
vs Bacchus Marsh(final) 5-0 R.Simons 2, J.Sutherland, F.Roberts, T.Nelson
Most impressively, after these eight games in two days and a long bus trip home, most of the boys then fronted up for a local competition game on the Friday night. Although they struggled to find energy after their exploits, they won my admiration just by turning up!
