Gap Student
This week sees the final week for Gapper Bec West at the Junior School. Bec has been with us for close to 10 months and been an integral part of the Junior School. She has coached Division 4 Hockey and I know the College Storm players will dearly miss her enthusiasm and warmth. Bec has travelled back to 1854 with the Year 5 students and accompanied many a year group on excursions and day trips. She has also been a valuable classroom assistant across the entire Junior School. We thank Bec for all she has given to us in her time in Australia and wish her all the very best on her return to England and university life.
Naplan Meeting
The Junior School NAPLAN results were mailed out to Year 3 and Year 5 parents this week. Next Tuesday, August 29th, the Junior School will host a Year 3 and Year 5 Parent Information evening on 2017 NAPLAN results. The meeting will be held in the Handbury Library at 5.15 pm.
Premier's Reading Challenge
Only 4 weeks remain for Junior School students to complete the 2017 Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge. 15 books from the prescribed list is all that is required to satisfy the criteria for the award.
Wellness Week
Mrs Milich and the Kids Matter/ Red Cross team are to be congratulated on their efforts to host last week’s ‘Wellness Week’. We had yoga classes, treasure hunts, friendship photographs, a disco, art competitions and sausage sizzles. All in all, it was a tremendous week and a good time was had by all.
Junior Hockey
Division 5
College Division 5 played Demons and were outgunned in an 8-0 defeat. Demons’ older players certainly made the difference but College never gave up. Darcy Fleetwood, Hugh Stratmann and Dougal White all played well for College.
Division 4
College Hurricanes and College Storm clashed on Saturday with Hurricanes winning 8-0. Gabe Marshall was outstanding as goalie for Storm. He saved over 10 shots on goal and gave his all. He was well supported by Charlotte Rowe, Jorja Hermon and Luke Marshall. Best for Hurricanes were Ben Walker, Olivia Mann and Harry Mould.
College Lightning played third placed Demons and triumphed 9-2 in a high scoring match. Lucy Roberts dominated the midfield and scored a handful of goals. She was well supported by Izzi Adamson, Ashleigh McNaughton and Tyler Butcher. Chantal Jackson scored her first goal for 2017 and played strongly in the forward line. The team is really gelling at the pointy end of the season and go into the final round of the regular season with a solid chance of making the finals.
