Emergency Evacuation Drills

Wantirna College takes the safety of our students very seriously and we have comprehensive Emergency Plans.  We have a range of drills to cover the range of circumstances we may encounter.  All schools are required to practise these drills on a regular basis.  We are aware that there has been a spate of threats to schools that have turned out to be hoaxes but we take every incident seriously.  It is important that all students know exactly what to do if the situation ever arises and the emergency is real.

In early Term 2 we will be practising our red alert full Evacuation Drill.  Parents will be advised on the morning of the drill via SMS as to the exact time of the drill and students will be informed in Home Group of the timing.  It is imperative that all students follow the instructions of their teachers and do not contact parents or post on social media.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents that if they do hear that we are implementing one of our Emergency Drills that they do not phone their children, phone the school or come down to the school.  These actions clog up phone systems and take essential resources away from ensuring the safety of your children.  In an Emergency situation you would not be able to get access to your children until the emergency is over.
