Assistant Principal's Report

Last week the Year 12 students went off to La Trobe University to have a look at the campus and what is on offer after life at Greensborough College. This was a great opportunity for students to look at the courses on offer. The students were able to walk around and have a good look at all of the stalls to see what each course offers. There was lots of talk about what it will be like to go to University and how works.  After talking to student’s a number of them feel that the day was a very positive experience and has helped them to realise what opportunities available and what they can achieve from going to University.

A big thank you to Jane Alexander from the Careers/Pathways team for organising the excursion.

Exams

The Year 9, 10 and 11 exams are fast approaching and students will be given their timetable this week. It is always time to reflect and look back on the work you have completed in classes over the semester and in your semester based class and Unit 1.

Over the next week go back over the things you've studied in class. Thinking things over can help you to understand the concepts and help you remember when you need them the most.

  • Quiz – Get a friend or family member to quiz you on key concepts. Offer to help your friends with their work too. Quizzes are great ways to get confident about what you know and find out what you still need to learn.
  • Make your own study materials – Think up some practice exam questions or create your own flash cards to help you study. This way you learn it all twice: once when you make the study materials and once when you use them to revise.

Find out as much as you can about the exam. Questions to ask include:

  • How much is the exam worth to your overall mark in the subject?
  • What type of exam is it (for example, multiple choice, essay, open book, take-home)?
  • Will there be a choice of questions or tasks?
  • How much will each question or task be worth?

There will be more information about exams and timetables in the newsletter and on Compass, please ensure you check to see when these are running.

Good luck over the coming week.

General Issues

With winter fast approaching we a remind parents and students that “hoodies” are not a part of our uniform. Students are expected to be in complete and correct school uniform every day.  To help combat the cold, students should wear the school jumper (for warmth) and  the spray jacket (protection against rain and wind).  In addition students are able to wear plain white t-shirt under their shirt however, the T-shirt must not hang below the shirt or jacket and must not extend below the sleeve.  If a student wishes to wear a long-sleeved white T-shirt they must be wearing the long sleeved college shirt.

Also, we notice that some students have been wearing non-college track pants.  Students can only travel to and from school in PE Uniform on days they have a practical PE class or school sport and only then if they are wearing the full correct PE Uniform.  Items that are not part of the College PE Uniform are not permitted; a note will not be accepted for this.  Students who do not have the correct PE Uniform are to wear their regular uniform and change for PE with a note explaining why they do not have the correct PE Uniform for their PE teacher.

With the cold weather looming the wearing of a scarf is permitted, however this scarf needs to be either a navy blue or black scarf (the thick knitted style of scarf is not permitted). Scarfs are available to purchase form the uniform shop.

Stay warm and have a great weekend.
