Law Week Law Talks

On Tuesday the 14th of May, Greensborough College’s Year 12 Legal Studies class participated in the Law Week Law Talks day.  Students had the opportunity to listen to a range of dynamic presentations delivered by senior members of the judiciary, practitioners and leaders of key legal bodies. Keynote speakers included: Rob Hulls, former Attorney-General and Director of the Centre for Innovative Justice at RMIT University; Michelle Quigley, former Supreme Court Justice and President of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT); Nick Gadd, Communications Manager of the Victorian Law Reform Commission; David Thomson, Teacher-in-Residence at Victoria Law Foundation.  Each presenter provided students with valuable advice and study tips to help them with their studies.  Students participated in a Question and Answer session after each presentation and got to meet students from another ten schools.

In the afternoon, students made their way to the County Court and engaged in a juries session and a mock empanelment.  This was followed by a mock mediation session run by David Leonard, Community Engagement Manager, Dispute Settlement Centre Victoria.

This very rewarding and informative one-day program brought the law to life for VCE Legal Studies students.
