Year 1/2 News

Welcome...

We would like to welcome all students and families to what promises to be a very busy term in Years One and Two. Our focus during these first weeks has been on establishing classroom routines,  expectations and cultures, and the students are certainly settling comfortably into these.

In Literacy, the students are learning what it looks, sounds and feels like to be successful readers and writers.  Home reading has commenced across all classes, and we appreciate your assistance with this invaluable support to your child's learning. We also celebrated "World Read Aloud Day" last Wednesday, which was a great opportunity for the students to share the joy of reading with their peers from different classes.

In Numeracy, we are working with a strong focus on place value and how to read, write, order and model numbers. These important skills will underpin the students' mathematical learning throughout the rest of the year.

Our Integrated Studies focus so far has been "All about me", but as of next week we will be commencing our Science unit entitled, "Schoolyard Safari". The students will learn about the features of small animals and how these help them to survive in their environments. In support of this, we are excited to be able to provide a free "Minibeasts" incursion to the Year Ones and Twos on Monday, February  24th.

Kind Regards,

Mrs Gear, Miss Liv, Miss Jew, Miss Laura, Blair & Mr Mitchell
