St. Brigid Crosses

The Year 7 Religion students have been excitedly creating and weaving St. Brigid Crosses as St. Brigid once did.  We were very grateful for the time Sr Cecilia gave to come in and judge the crosses. There were over a hundred to choose from so the task was quite difficult.  Here are some beautiful words from Sr Cecilia:

Hello Yr 7 classes at St. Joe’s,

I have just finished admiring all the St. Brigid’s Crosses that you made which are on exhibition in the Resource Centre.

They are so creative and varied that it is impossible to “judge” the best crosses. What I have done is to make six categories and then I selected a couple of the best examples of those categories. I could have chosen many more but we kept it to a couple.

Congratulations to those whose crosses were chosen - probably if you had a different judge they would choose different crosses - beauty is in the eye of the beholder!!

Most importantly, I want to thank all of you who took the trouble to make your cross and to bring it to school. Of course the main reason we talk about  St. Brigid is so we all  try to live as she did - caring for all people, especially those who need a bit of extra support; nurturing all of creation and living sustainably; and trying to live like Jesus did so we become the best person we can be. The crosses are just a reminder of what Brigid stood for, so keep your cross where you see it and I am sure St. Brigid will take good care of you and your family.

God bless each one of you!

Cecilia
