Classroom News - Year 6

Camp

We were very lucky to get to camp when we did and the students, parent helpers and teachers had a fantastic time.

Art

We are currently working to create landscapes inspired by Sally Morgan's work. She is an Indigenous author and artist who has written some fabulous books.

Bunya Nuts

The school's bunya tree has been fruiting which has meant we needed to take a small detour when heading to the paddock. However, it also allowed us to learn about an indigenous food source. The nuts can be eaten raw as a snack or cooked and turned into meals.

English

Reading Rotations are in full swing and includes reading to a teacher twice a week, reading with buddies from Year 1 & 2, reader's theatre, typing, readworks comprehension, studyladder and read to self. Ask your child about how each of these activities supports their learning and if they have received their reading goal while reading to the teacher.

Talk homework is going up on Google Classroom on Monday's so that students have time to do it if they have a busy Wednesday night. We give out a hard copy every Wednesday and students complete their Big Write on Thursdays. It has been great to see students putting to use the learning we do during the week when writing their narratives. Over the coming weeks, we will be conducting a Cold Write which is similar to our Big Writes only without the preparation we normally provide. This allows us to assess each students ability to apply what has been taught independently.

Maths

So far this term, we have covered the order of operations, multiplication and division, angles and are beginning work on parts of a circle. Ask your child why BIDMAS is important, what a circumference is and to solve word problems that involve multiplication.

À bientôt Kristin

Kristin has had to go back to South Africa for a while, so we had a farewell party to wish her good travels.

Year 6 look forward to seeing her again soon.
