Student Diaries

All students from Year 3 to Year 12 have been issued with a student diary. Please see recommendations from the Head of Primary and Secondary on their use.

Primary Diaries - a  note from Mr Rob Storrie (Head of Primary)

It is week 2 already and we are well and truly back into the swing of things.

One new addition to the Primary School is student diaries. Every student in Years 3-6 have been given a diary. If you have a child or children in these grades and have not seen it yet, it might be worth asking to see it.

You will find lots of helpful information in the diary. It can be used to communicate with your child’s teacher and vice versa. For more formal communication or to arrange a meeting, please email or contact the College office. Teachers may write a quick positive note or inform you about certain behaviours. There is also a formal Commendation section that is used for acknowledging the wonderful effort or work your child has been doing. Alongside this, is a Breach of Discipline section. This is for recording more serious behavioural issues and should be taken seriously. Both sections require a parent signature.

Please read through the diary and sign these pages - there are three sections that need to be signed, including TCC Technology Contract and a Sport/College Representation Contract.  It is worth checking each day for any comments and sign a couple of times a week in the weekly section to acknowledge that you have been seeing the diary.

I hope that it helps with day to day communication, as well as giving each student some ownership and responsibility to manage due dates, homework and daily routines.

Secondary Student Diaries - a note from Mr Wayne Green (Head of Secondary)

Students in Year 7 to Year 10 are expected to have their diaries with them each lesson and during devotions in the morning. Teachers will ask students to write homework, assessment task Latest Submission Times and other information that is both helpful to the student and parents.

Parents are asked to check diaries and sign them at the end of each week. Students may be given consequences if diaries are not signed to encourage effective use. Students also will need to write in their diary toward the back, a reason to why they are out of class and carry it with them if they are not in class during class time, for other members of staff to check if they are seen out of class. This will help teachers and parents to keep track of time out of class for toilet breaks, trips to front office, sore knees, Panadol, etc.

The diaries have ample amount of information regarding routines, uniform policies, bell times, staff contacts, etc. Please help your child maintain a neat and tidy diary and to utilise them as effectively as possible. Parents are welcome to use diaries for a quick positive note to staff, but for others important issues please call the office or send an email to the teacher using the College email system. If you need to email staff the address is first initial, then surname, then school email address, e.g., for Mr Wayne Green it is wgreen@tareeccs.nsw.edu.au

Secondary Camps

When we ask students about fond memories from school, one of the most common responses we hear is 'School Camp'. Camps for Secondary students are quickly coming up in Week 4, notes were sent home earlier this week and are due back on Friday. Camps are a wonderful time for students to develop into cohesive year group, make new friends and appreciate God's amazing creation.

A message from Mr Andrew Kent (Business Manager)

We are very fortunate to have a Canteen Store on premises and it is run on limited staffing by our capable manager Simone. We are always looking for committed volunteers to help. In 2020 we are transitioning out of cash in the College. Handling cash is a WHS concern for my staff who need to go to the bank. Not only is it a safety issue, it is inefficient and costly to deposit.

Here is a summary of the changes:

PRIMARY STUDENTS

RECESS:

Primary students can still use cash to purchase items over the counter, we do not have an option for orders to be made up for recess service. Recess is over the counter items only, so no changes to recess procedures at all.

LUNCH:

ALL lunch orders are to be put through the Flexischools website or app (flexischools.com.au or download the app) primary students are still able to purchase over the counter using cash, as always. The only change is as of 1 March 2020 we will no longer accept ‘old style’ lunch order bags.

Some benefits of using Flexischools for lunch orders are:

  • No more students forgetting to place their lunch order
  • No more lost money
  • The ability for orders to be placed by families days ahead of time for their convenience
  • The menu is always up to date
  • There are price discounts for ordering by Flexischools

SECONDARY STUDENTS

Secondary students are to use their student ID card which they link to their Flexischools account to make over the counter purchases. All lunch orders are to be put through the Flexischools website or app (flexischools.com.au or download the app). The only change is ALL orders are to be through the app and the use of their card instead of using cash.

How to set up a Flexischools account:

  1. Go to Flexischools.com.au or download the app
  2. Register
  3. Link the student ID number (high school only, this number is found on their student ID card)
  4. Load the dollar amount you choose
  5. Set an automatic ‘top up’ amount, If you want control
  6. Set a ‘daily limit’ spend (Secondary  only)

Some of the benefits for Secondary students using a card are:

  • Students already carry their student ID card with them for use in the ISC so they are not carrying any additional cards as they would if we had regular EFTPOS
  • Our society is becoming more and more cashless, we encourage our students to learn the benefits of cashless while you (the adult in their life) are able to monitor what they spend
  • You are able to load a dollar amount and then set a daily spend limit so they cannot spend more than you wish
  • No more lost money
  • If their card is lost in the street it will not work in any other school, so their money is safe

If you have any questions, as always please call us at the College on 6539 0100 or for help with flexischools 1300 361 769.

New Kiss and Drop/Car Park

We again thank you for your continued cooperation and patience as the car park work is carried out. We are looking forward to the improvements. Stage 2 of the car park works will be undertaken in the next holidays, improving traffic flow even further and adding more parking. Our builders have told us they are hoping to be finished by early March, subject to rain.

Vaccinations for 2020 - Year 7 and Year 10

These forms were sent home this week, please complete and return promptly to the College

Excursion Payments

Payments for excursions will now be accepted through TryBooking. This eliminates the need for students to carry cash to school. TryBooking is the site we have used for years to manage our musicals and has proven to be simple to use, secure and reliable. Details about how to pay will be included on notes where applicable.
