Deputy Principal's Report

Dear Parents & Carers,
Hopefully everyone enjoyed an extended weekend to enjoy the Melbourne Cup. There were certainly many excited children sharing stories of how they spent their five days, some who were lucky enough to spend some time away camping or visiting family and friends.
It is great that our children still love to come back to school to be with their classmates and teachers. The next few weeks will be very busy for all our children with lots of fun and exciting learning and other activities planned.
SRC - Talent Show
The St Finbar's Talent Shows began yesterday with our extremely capable SRC Leaders organising timetables, song lists and props. Our first few performances have set the scene and a high standard of individual and group talent. Thanks to those parents who have already been able to attend and enjoyed the entertainment.
All performances will take place during snack time - 1:50-2:30.
A schedule for tomorrow and next week (Week 6) is below. Parents are most welcome to attend to watch their children perform.
It is not always easy for children to know how to manage friendships. Problems with friends can affect how children feel about themselves and their enthusiasm for activities that involve others. Parents and carers can help children learn the kinds of friendship skills they will need as they grow and develop.
Learning how to make and keep friends involves a number of skills. Children learn more and more complex social skills from those around them as they develop.
Friendship skills for children include
Cooperation
- How to share, how to take turns, how to work together towards a common goal.
Communication
- Using words to explain what you want and listening to others respectfully
- Paying attention to body language, e.g., making eye contact, smiling and being able to read others’ nonverbal reactions.
Understanding and managing feelings
- Being able to express feelings in ways that help others understand you.
- Recognising and responding to others’ feelings.
Accepting and including others
- Recognising others’ needs for respect and friendship
