Music in action
In music, students have had a busy term participating in a variety of excursions.
Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 went to a Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra concert where they were introduced to all the orchestral instruments and participated in rhythm and movement activities while the orchestra played famous classical music. They even got to be conductors!
Grades 5 and 6 joined students from Corpus Christi in a workshop and concert with esteemed mainland music educator Jon Madin. Jon's wacky homemade instruments were a hit, and we especially enjoyed playing his amazing "Echo Cellos!" Students were pushed out of their comfort zones rehearsing and performing on unfamiliar instruments and they embraced the opportunity with excellent attitudes and teamwork.
Here is a short video of Grade 5/6 Huon rehearsing with Jon Madin:

Grade 3 and 4 recently attended the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra concert "Deadline to Showtime". We enjoyed the hilarious storyline and "holiday" themed costumes worn by the musicians. Students helped the orchestra perform "Power Up", a musical piece written for orchestra and body percussion.
