Well done on making it to the end of Term 2!
For the Year 12 students, your year is coming to an end very quickly, make sure you take some time to recharge over the holiday break and use this time away from school to revise and study. If your teachers have organised holiday classes please make the effort to attend, this extra time with your teacher is crucial as exams are just around the corner and you only have one full term of school left.
Thank you to the staff for your work this semester, it has been challenging for a variety of reasons. Your support and dedication to the students is amazing. Please enjoy some time away ready for a busy term 3.
End of Term Assembly
A reminder that we will be holding an end of term assembly this coming Friday from 2.10pm in the stadium.
Are these yours?!
There is a collection of unclaimed lunchboxes in the Canteen. Uncollected items will be donated to the Op-Shop at the end of term.
Energy Drinks
A number of students have been presenting at school with energy drinks. For health reasons students are not permitted to have energy drinks at school. Any student found with an energy drink bottle/can at school will be required to hand it over for disposal. We ask that parents assist us with, and have a conversation with their child/ren. The information below may assist with this conversation.
Energy drinks are a popular beverage that claims to provide a boost of energy and hydration. There are caffeine-rich energy drinks, as well as a non-caffeinated variety promoted as a hydrating sports drink. However, a closer look at its ingredients reveals why it may not be the healthiest choice for your body.
Energy drinks contains high levels of caffeine, which can lead to adverse health effects such as rapid heart rate, heart palpitations, high blood pressure, and potential disruption of sleep patterns. For a teen who may have a yet-to-be-diagnosed underlying heart condition, such high amounts of caffeine can be fatal and there have sadly been a small number of teen deaths associated with abnormal high caffeine intakes courtesy of energy drinks. These drinks are not suitable for children or teens under 18.
Prime Hydration does not contain caffeine and is rather a mix of coconut water and electrolytes associated with optimising hydration.
With no sugar, the blend can be likened to what is offered in a bottle of No Added Sugar Sports drink. Whilst such a product is not dangerous for children or teens, it is listed as not suitable for children or teens under the age of 15, likely due to the range of additives including amino acids. For older teens and adults alike, as a hydration aid, it is certainly not necessary, and with the exception of athletes competing at the highest levels in hot conditions, water will be just as effective and a whole lot cheaper.
Here’s what happens to your body when you highly caffeinated artificial drink energy drinks every day:
