NAIDOC Week

Bundjil the Creator

The first week of July was an important week for people living in Australia. It was NAIDOC Week (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee). NAIDOC Week occurs every year in July to celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This year's theme for NAIDOC Week is ‘For Our Elders’.

The students focused on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, and how they believe the world was created. In class they learnt about an Eagle named Bundjil, who the Wurundjeri people believe had created the world. As a school, the students created a Bundjil display in acknowledgement and remembrance of the traditional owners of the land. Each feather was decorated by students and then was assembled together to create Bundjil, The Creator.
