Message from the Principal

Achieving Excellence Together

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school to students, staff, and parents. I trust everyone enjoyed the term break. The children and staff look refreshed and ready for another exciting term. Term three promises to be a busy with planned experiences such as incursions, excursions, Lit Fest (formally known as book week), 100 Days of Prep celebrations, Father’s Day Stall, and much more. Of course,  these enriching experiences complement our continuing teaching and learning which remains our highest priority.

Thank you to our families for joining us at the Parent Teacher Conferences last week. I was fortunate enough to participate in some of the meetings and was impressed by the dedication of our students and their parents as they worked with the teacher to understand their new learning goals and practiced the strategies that can be used at home to support their child. This is a brilliant example of our home-school partnership in action, working together to have the greatest possible impact on every student's learning. I would also like to extend my gratitude to everyone who took the time to complete the short survey on our Student Reporting format. Your collective voice is very important to us and will guide the work of our School Improvement Team as we seek to update the way we present student learning information to families to meet your expectations. If have some feedback you would like to share, I encourage you to reach out to our front office in person, by phone or by email.

NAPLAN Results

This week, students in grades 3 and 5 received their individual NAPLAN results for the assessments they completed in Term 1 this year. Our teachers and the School Improvement Team will spend some time over the coming weeks unpacking the data and using it to monitor our progress toward our annual implementation goals. This will also be valuable as prepare for our school review in 2024, to help us get a greater understanding of the effectiveness of the program as we look to set new goals and targets for the next four years.

SWPBS

Earlier this week, our SWPBS Action completed learning in Universal B Training presented by our Department of Education coach. As part of this training, staff explored the concept of Bullying, the way it is perceived in the community and at schools, strategies for responding to situations of bullying, and implementation of bullying prevention systems. The team is using information from the student opinion survey and student focus groups to develop a school-wide action plan to reduce the likelihood of bullying at school and enhance the capacity of staff and students to effectively respond to bullying. This exciting work will remain a priority of the team for the remainder of the year and we look forward to seeing what they implement. * Did you know as part of the School Council we have an SWPBS Sub-Committee with parents committed to helping us drive our positive behavior systems across the school? If this is something you would be interested in, consider joining our School Council when we call for members in Term 1 2024.
