Out and about with Mr Walsh
It has been a massive term 2 at Surside with so much happening in and out of the classroom. Teaching, learning, engagement and wellbeing have been high on the agenda with so many things to participate in and celebrate. It has been pleasing to sit down with Mrs Patterson and Mrs Charleston to read all of our student reports and celebrate all of the growth that our students have achieved within their learning and all of the supports that are offered to provide opportunities for support or extension in their acdemic and social and emotional learning.
It has been wonderful to pop into classrooms throughout the term and see all of the students engaged in so many different aspects of their learning and applying their skills and knowledge in a variety of ways. Daily review in literacy and numeracy has been a highlight by providing our students with the opportunity to revisit previously learnt concepts and increase long term memory.
It has been amazing to be in the school yard at recess and lunchtimes to see our students applying our school values in a variety of games, activities and social situations. A big thank you to all of the staff and students who have assisted with the many clubs and activities on offer, to make the yard a welcoming place.
Our end of term newsletter is a celebration of what has been happening at Surfside over the past week and an opportunity to fill in the calendar to plan for a busy term 3 ahead. A big welcome to all of the families who have started at Surfside during term 2 and we hope that you have felt at home with your transition to Surfside. We hope that all of our students, staff and families have a safe and restful break.
Regional Cross Country Championships
A massive congratulations to Chloe, Freya and Sofia who participate in the Regional Cross Country Championships at Brimbank Park, Keilor. It was typical cross country conditions with cold temperatures, wind, rain, mud and some challenging hills. Sofia has qualified for the State Championships in her classification and Freya finished 24th and Chloe 36th. A great example of our school value of achievement.
Surfside Masterchef 2023
Our Year 6 students have completed their kitchen and garden journey and it culminated with their Masterchef challenge. Students utilised indigineous ingredients such as pepperberry, lemon myrtle, saltbush, etc to develop a dish. These activities exemplified our school values of teamwork and achievement and it was evident that they have developed some amazing skills within the program. A big thank you to Fleur and Clancey for leading such a wonderful and innovative program for our students. We definitely know we wouldn't be able to support this program without the assistance of our Surfside community through fundraising and and parent and carer volunteers.
Surfside Breakfast Clubber of the Week
A big thank you to the following students who have been recognised throughout the term as 'Breakfast Clubber of the Week'. These students have exemplified our school values and assisted in the breakfast club program. A reminder to students and families that Breakfast Club will run every Thursday from 7.30am in the kitchen. A big thank you to Lydia Graham for her support with the students and program

Foundation Visit to MoPA (Museum of Play and Art)
Our Foundation students made the visit to MoPA in Geelong for their first excursion of 2023. The students were full of excitement and anticipation and there were so many experiences on offer for them. The Geelong Children’s Museum is filled to the brim with sensory, immersive, play-based learning experiences.
