Literacy
In Reading, we have been learning to predict before and during reading. Students have been amazing at using the text clues and their prior knowledge to make and adjust their predictions throughout reading. We are now focusing on looking at comparing and contrasting. We have enjoyed writing our information texts and the past two weeks we have put a lot of time and effort into creating autobiographies. For the remainder of the term, we will be doing a writers' bootcamp to help us revise the many aspects of writing including our sentence structure, punctuation and handwriting.
Maths
We have built on our understanding of basic number facts in both addition and subtraction by exploring building to 10. We have used our 10s facts knowledge to help us solve other problems e.g. 8+5, we know 8+2=10 and 10+3=13 so therefore 8+5=13. We have also loved having a problem-solving warm-up before each maths session and enjoyed challenging ourselves with the number talks.
Respectful Relationships
In our Respectful Relationships and Wellbeing lessons, we have identified that everyone has different fears, responses and coping strategies. We have investigated what some of our own fears might be and discussed our personal coping strategies. We then looked into how we can support others when they may be feeling scared or facing a fear.
It was wonderful to see the teachings of Respectful Relationships in action during our excursion to the Melbourne Museum. Students showed their amazing understanding of others' feelings and used their learnings from our fairness and taking turns lessons a few weeks ago. We saw many students lining up patiently and even using tools such as playing paper, scissors, rock to decide who would get to use an interactive exhibit first.
