Grade 5/6 Students

Celebrating our fantastic Fives and sensational Sixes!

Reading:

In Reading, students have worked steadily through their Literacy Circles books. Most students have finished reading the novel and will complete their last meetings this week. It has been wonderful watching them collaborate and participate in rich discussions about the characters and themes. I congratulate all 5/6 students on their ability to work independently and appropriately manage their time.

Writing:

In Writing, students have explored the context in which diary writing is used. They recognised that this style of writing can assist in retelling past events, planning future events or keeping track of current events. They will use this knowledge to write a diary entry from the perspective of a specific Prime Minister. This will require students to think critically about past events and the impact this had on the Prime Minister's time in office.

Mathematics:

In Mathematics, students have deepened their understanding of multiplication. We have explored various methods to solve problems which include vertical algorithms and the box method. Additionally, we have looked at entry points into problems to determine the most appropriate ways of answering multiplication-based questions.

Respectful Relationships and Wellbeing:

In Rights, Responsibilities and Respectful Relationships, the students have shared positive coping strategies they use in their daily lives. In addition to this, students recognised the importance of problem-solving and the role it plays in our general health and wellbeing. They need to be able to think critically and evaluate the consequences of various actions. It has been enjoyable listening to the positive coping strategies that each individual uses at home and school.
