Year 3 to Year 6

Junior School Update

Welcome to Term 3!!

We are excited to share with you the wonderful activities that our students from Year 3 to Year 6 have been engaged in during NAIDOC Week. In Year 3, the students have been busy creating lovely bracelets through art and craft activities. They have been learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. It has been great to witness their enthusiasm and creativity as they express their appreciation for Indigenous studies.

Moving on to Year 4, our students have been working diligently in their English classes, learning about famous Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. They have been delving into biographies and stories, uncovering the significant contributions made by Indigenous individuals to various fields. Through their studies, the students have gained a deeper understanding of the rich cultural heritage of Australia and the importance of recognising and celebrating the achievements of these remarkable individuals.

In Year 5, our students have been engaging in important documentaries that shed light on the Elders, challenges, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Through these documentaries, they have developed a greater appreciation for the diverse cultures and experiences within Indigenous communities. The students have actively participated in discussions, asking thought-provoking questions and reflecting on the stories shared, fostering empathy and understanding.

Lastly, in Year 6, our students have had the opportunity to connect with buddy classes in the Early Years. Through collaborative activities, they have been fostering positive relationships and building connections. Our Year 6 students have acted as mentors and role models, sharing their knowledge and experiences while also learning from their younger peers. This intergenerational interaction has been a valuable experience, promoting inclusivity, empathy, and a sense of community within our College.

We are incredibly proud of our students' engagement and enthusiasm throughout NAIDOC Week. These activities have provided them with valuable opportunities to learn, appreciate, and celebrate the rich Indigenous cultures of Australia.
