June Aussies of the Month

Congratulations to our June Aussies of the Month! Our Aussie of the Month Awards recognise students who 'live and breathe' the LNPS school values: CARE & CONCERN, RESPECT, HONESTY and PURSUIT of EXCELLENCE. Please read further to find out who the June Aussies of the Month are and what their teachers had to say about them.

Scarlett’s mindset towards all aspects of school life sees her flourishing in the classroom. She is always kind and thoughtful to others and the world around her. Scarlett consistently embodies our LNPS school values on a daily basis and is a wonderful role model for others to follow.

She is curious, self-aware and genuinely interested in everything we do. Scarlett demonstrates a willingness to always have a go and take risks with her learning by throwing herself into new experiences and supporting others to join in with her. You are a delight to teach Scarlett and such a deserving winner of Aussie of the Month! Congratulations!

Eddie is kind and friendly to all. He greets everyone with a smile and loves to say hello to all of the teachers in the yard. Eddie tries his best with all that he does and it has been great to see him develop his friendships more this year. You are very deserving of the “Aussie of the Month”, Eddie and it is a privilege being your teacher this year.

Autism Inclusion Teacher Update

Over the last term and during weeks 1 and 2 this term, I have had the opportunity to discuss with families at LNPS what their experiences have been like since their child and/or children have been diagnosed with Autism.

I spoke to families about internal/external supports that their child was receiving in or outside of school, experiences with Agencies such as Autism SA, NDIS experiences and much more. Hearing about each family's unique experience has been invaluable in contributing to my own knowledge base. It has enabled me to develop a whole site data footprint snapshot in relation to each Autistic student at LNPS to ensure that each child is having their functional needs (skills they need to learn) met in a manner that suits each child and family.

This term, I will continue to participate in Autism Inclusion Teacher (AIT) Network Meetings, which are facilitated by an Advisor from the Statewide Inclusive Education Services (formerly known as SERU). I am eager to share with other AITs all the new learning that I obtained from speaking with each family relating to accessing NDIS funding/NDIS plans etc with the intention that they can share the information within their respective school community, so that families across our network are all equipped with the same knowledge in helping their child access timely support.

This term in week six, 28th August, I am facilitating a workshop based on the learning that I was involved in through  Positive Partnerships in term 1. This initiative is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education through Helping Children with Autism package. Positive Partnerships is delivered by Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect). The workshop will focus on Sensory Processing and Universal Design for Learning. The workshop will be open to all staff to attend and I look forward to sharing new learning with staff to build their professional knowledge and understanding.
