Chaplain @ Cornerstone

It’s great to be back at school and seeing so many familiar faces! The chaplain service will continue to be available Wednesdays and Fridays. Students seeking support can speak to me directly, leave me a note in my letterbox on my office door, or email me at odette.blennerhassett@cornerstone.wa.edu.au

One exciting addition to the chaplain service in 2021 is my new assistant – ‘Billie’! Billie is a therapy dog for the college, and she has been enjoying meeting all the new students. Students can book in for a “pat ‘n’ chat” or play with her at break times. Billie is supervised by me and on a lead at all times. There are many studies supporting the benefits of dogs in schools. Feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns.

Thanks to you all for your support in our sunscreen fundraiser. If anyone has payments outstanding, please drop them into the front office ASAP. The toilet project is underway, and a big thank you goes out to DULUX and BUNNINGS for their generous donations that have allowed us to get started. DULUX has donated all the paint required – and trust me, it is a LOT of paint! A team of volunteers worked hard in the holidays to get started and completed the mammoth task of repainting all the high school toilets. This is just the first step, and students now will be involved in decisions around design and graphics that will be the feature of the spaces. Stay tuned for future updates! The goal is to complete the primary toilets later in the year. If any primary families would like to be involved, please get in touch!

Another exciting event is the Primary Art Competition! Students in Year 1-6 are invited to enter their artistic interpretation of each of the three words underpinning our positive behaviour focus – RELATIONSHIP, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY. We are looking forward to seeing how the students interpret these themes in the context of our college. The winning artists will receive an Orana Cinemas Voucher, and the honour of having their art installed in the school for everyone’s enjoyment.

The start of a new year can be daunting for many students, and can cause stress. If you are concerned for your child, please don’t hesitate to get in touch so we can support them effectively.

Regards,

Mrs Blenny - Cornerstone College Chaplain.
