LOCKDOWN 5.0
We are all very proud of our students. What an amazing community! The learning never stops at Upper Gully! We could not be prouder at Upper Gully! Although lockdown number 5 took us by surprise the teachers and staff rallied and were ready in no time! Prepared and planned for the days ahead by Monday we were back online and chatting and teaching our students. Our students have been engaged and working hard. The families are outstanding! We could not ask for more support from our community at such a challenging time! Thank you for everything Upper Gully community you are AMAZING! Just check out all those SeeSaw posts and visits!
AROUND THE SCHOOL
This week and I’m sure for the next few, we are all about the Olympics! Staff and students are absolutely revelling in the medals that we are winning and really enjoying watching the different competitions. It has been great as it ties into geography as they discuss the various countries that competitors are from. Our Preps and Buddies will be conducting their very own Olympics with the finals happening on their 100 days celebration.
Talk for writing is our fabulous new approach to writing. We have introduced it into every classroom and our students are loving it! They learn the story, first as pictures then words, act it out and then create their own. It has been wonderful to see the engagement from even the most reluctant writers.
Student Conferences
Thank you everyone for your flexibility with our conferences. I know we have all heard the term PIVOT during this interesting time and we are all becoming experts at it! Student led conferences are where the children will share their learning goals and achievements with you. It is always wonderful to see and hear students talking about their learning and achievement with their parents.
Classroom Newsletters
Our teachers have introduced classroom newsletters as part of our response to communication. Each grade has a newsletter that should inform you about the term, the topics students are learning and any other important information relevant to that class.

BOOK FAIR
I’m very excited to announce that we will have book fair coming to our school on August 19th. I know our students love the wonderful books and goodies that they can get from book fair. Unfortunately, it will only be open during school hours and parents will not be able to attend. Hopefully things may change by then and we are keeping our fingers crossed as we do miss our family’s presence at school for these special things!
