-A FANTASRTIC DAY ENJOYED BY ALL.

What an absolute treat after two years of COVID isolation and disruptions. VCE Studio Arts and Visual Communication Design students along with Ms. Doller and Ms. Nichol had the opportunity to visit the new SAM (Shepparton Art Museum) and Australian contemporary artist and designer Mimi Leung on Wednesday 2nd March in Shepparton.

Starting at SAM students attended Indigenous artist Lin Onus’ exhibition The Land Within. ’This exhibition weaves together a story of Onus’ experiences and relationships to place, people, and the politics of his time. Bringing together key artworks from across Australia, it celebrates his bold and often irreverent exploration of the reverberating impact of colonisation, the struggle for Indigenous rights, and the strength of Aboriginal people’.

Students were then lucky enough to listen and to ask questions of practicing artist Mimi Leung.’From her home in regional Victoria, Mimi has developed a worldwide reputation for her dynamic and kinetic illustrations. Overflowing with wild, abstract forms, her work captures the uncontained energy of a uniquely creative spirit’. https://jackywinter.com/artists/mimi-leung. Mimi spoke to students about her art practices, experiences in the art world and her personal and professional challenges as a practicing artist and designer. Mimi is an extremely reputable and busy artist so the time that she gave to our students was greatly appreciated.

Ms. Doller and Ms. Nichol would like to thank their VCE classes for their outstanding behaviour and respectful attitudes. You should be congratulated for being such great role models for Rochester Secondary College. It was a pleasure to spend the day with you all.
