Co-curricular - Junior Sport

Junior Sport

This summer has certainly provided its fair share of challenges - mainly in the form of providing the wettest weather I can remember. Many of the teams in the Junior School have been affected by the rain this season, with limited training and game time. Some teams have had to play on Saturdays without having had a training session, while others have trained a few times and are waiting to get their first game. What has been outstanding in my eyes is the enthusiasm shown by the boys and their desire to still want to practice, play and represent the College.

Fingers crossed this weekend, the final for Term 1 summer sport, will see all teams get onto the court, diamond or field and end the season on a great performance - win, lose or draw.

Over the past two weeks, we have had a number of Junior School students trialing for IPSHA representative teams. Congratulations to the following boys on their selection:

IPSHA Touch Football:

William Gibson

Luke Maronese

Seamus O’Connell

 IPSHA Football:

The last round of summer sport signals the start of preparations for the winter season. As fields get converted and posts go up, attention starts to shift to the winter sports and trials. It has been a topic of hot conversation and many boys in the Junior School are looking forward to the new opportunity. For forward planning, the Junior School Winter Trials will be held on Monday 28 March. These trials will be held during school hours on the College fields. A trial schedule will be issued next week with a copy made available in classrooms and in the Especean. Boys should be preparing boots, mouthguards, shinpads and any other gear they need for the trials. Trials will be game based and specialist positions, such as goal keeping, will have a specific trial completed on the same day.

We wish all boys participating in the trials all the best. Remember that if you have fun and enjoy the experience, you will often perform at your best.

A reminder for all boys selected in the touring groups for Football and Rugby that training will be held on Thursday morning this week, and Tuesday and Thursday morning the following week. Boys are to be at the College ready to train for a 7:30 AM start. We need to maximise our time training in the lead up to the competitions at the end of this term.
