Years 10 -12 Community

April 2022

International Women’s Day

At the International Women's Day breakfast, Roqya, Nae Koe, Allie, Indyanna, Kate, and I had a terrific time, and it was an honour to meet a role model like Frances Diver. We all talked to Ms. Diver about her career in healthcare and accomplishments, such as becoming the CEO of Barwon Health.  It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me; I aim and aspire to work in the medical field, and being able to speak with Frances Diver about her career in healthcare was incredible. As a young aspiring healthcare worker, I'm always on the lookout for outstanding role models to inspire me to continue my studies and one day become a doctor, and I'm happy to say that Frances is one of them. - Aleena Eftikhari

VCE

The VCE students are now running at full speed as the academic year has now fully kicked in. As a year 12 group they are doing great job of balancing work, academics and a social life. The end of term cannot come quick enough but it is not the time to ease up fully. While the break is welcome students will be using their time wisely banking a few hours completing their all-important coursework and hopefully allowing themselves the chance to find some relax time. For the Year 11’s VCE is now real and they too are completing SACs, turning in coursework and learning how the VCE life works.

Our student leaders have done a great job by meeting with us and giving us some great ideas as to how they want to alter their space. We are pleased to be able to say that some of these physical changes will definitely happen and will really make our VCE area feel like home.

VCAL

Bunnings BBQ

If you popped into Bunnings last Saturday you may have seen the VCAL students  volunteering at the BBQ.  They were able to raise over $1000 which will contribute to their applied learning projects!

School Yard Beans

In preparation for the grand opening of the VCAL cafe (newly renamed to School Yard Beans) students have been working on a range of tasks. Last week they participated in the Safe Food Handling short course, where they learnt the OHS considerations required to prepare and serve food to their customers safely.  They have also been working tirelessly to renovate the coffee van, which has undergone a complete facelift! Excitingly, the students set up their van at the Goldsworthy athletics day, serving hot drinks and snacks. The cafe will be open each Tuesday at the Goldsworthy campus. We look forward to seeing the VCAL students continue to grow and develop their employability skills!

African Drumming

VCAL students had a special visit from a highly skilled African drummer. The noise and participation levels were top level!

Year 10

Career Action Plans: In Year 10 there are many things happening. One key part of their learning journey in Year 10 is establishing a Career Action Plan. Led by Careers Manager Ms. Parcell all students established an informed plan that helps establish a future pathway as well as enables students to set some career goals (no matter how ambitious they might be). In Year 10, this action plan is particularly important as it supports students in determining the best possible senior study pathway.

Goldsworthy Community Event

Congratulations to all senior students for their outstanding work in preparing for and facilitating the Goldsworthy Community event.
