Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge
April 2022
The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Northern Bay College is excited to be participating. The PRC application offers a range of exciting features including:
The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 2 September 2022.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books. All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.

We asked our campus principals the following questions about reading:
Emma Horne, Assistant Principal Goldsworthy Campus
Mat Potter, Assistant Principal, Hendy Campus
Ben McCredden, Wexford Campus Principal
Kathleen Nardi, Peacock Campus Principal
I love reading books that transport me to other places and times and find that reading is such a wonderful opportunity for mindfulness.
Juantia Mountjoy, Assistant Principal, Wexford Campus
My favourite book as a child was “The Folk of the Faraway Tree” by Enid Blyton, then as a teenage I read every book by S E Hinton that I could get my hands on after reading “The Outsiders” as a class novel. Now as an adult I read anything and everything and can often be found hiding away somewhere with a good book. I received a Kindle for Christmas a few years ago, so now I can download as many books as I like! I like the escape to other worlds that reading offers.
