From the Wellbeing Team

April 2022

This month I have been reminded by the incredibly hopeful nature of our students at NBC.  There is no doubt that we have been on an incredible, challenging, and unexpected journey over the last couple of years – and it has been tough, without question, Covid has been tough.  In the next few days, students will be finishing term 1 for the year, and this has been a challenge for students as they learn to navigate a complete term of onsite learning.  What impresses me is how students are making the choice to be eager to get in the front gate, into class, and back into routine.  Our students are here, and they are ready to go every morning – hopeful and optimistic that they will have another great day at NBC.  There is a lot we can learn from the children and young people in our lives!

Looking forward into next term, the NBC Wellbeing Team are excited to be providing opportunities for parents and families to come onsite once again for our “Coffee Clubs”.  This is something that was hugely popular before Covid – at each of our 5 campuses, we will be creating a space for parents and families to come and have a coffee and biscuit with some of the staff at your campus at either drop-off or pick-up time on a regular basis.  Keep an eye on the NBC Facebook page and Compass for more details.

Term 2 at our Goldsworthy campus will be a busy time with lots of things happening – Teen Mental Health First Aid is being scheduled for VCE year 11 and Intermediate VCAL students, in this program – students will learn how to identify signs of mental health, how to look after themselves, and how to help a friend.  Still at Goldsworthy, our Standout Group has been kicking goals and planning for IDAHOBIT Day (May 17) as everyone at NBC stands out against discrimination and share messages of support to the LGBTQIA+ community!

If you want to learn more about how changing your mindset to being more hopeful and optimistic can change your life, I encourage you to listen to a short podcast HERE.
