Teaching and Learning

There's more than one way to practise our spelling...

Mr Collins grade have been actively practising their weekly words. Each day they have a different method for learning their words. Sometimes it even takes them outside. See some pictures below of some of the methods in use.

Afternoons with Miss Coffey

With today, March 17th being St Patrick’s Day, this week students discussed the origins of the day, reading and discussing some information on Epic. We then followed a guided drawing to create a cute cartoon leprechaun. Here’s the link if you’d like to try for yourself!

Here are some of the amazing pictures we created!

Also we have had two of our students make some scary spider spacers so that when they write they can remember to put spaces between their words, so that their writing can be easily re-read.

Mobile Area Resource Centre (MARC ) News

We talked about the Dewey Decimal System today (ask your people about the Dewey Decimal rap song, it’s so bad it’s good!). All non-fiction books are catalogued using the Dewey numbering system.Today we did an activity based on Who am I? by Philip Bunting which is catalogued in the 100’s, the philosophy category (books about ourselves and our feelings). We also borrowed lots of great books! (there might be a few books from last time still under beds at home).

Outdoor Education

We are very excited as some of our seeds have sprouted. Once they are big enough we will transplant them into the large garden beds. Last week we spent time adding soil that had fertiliser in it to our large garden beds. Term 2 will see us doing some mass planting of a winter crop of vegetables and herbs. Thank you to our friend Jan at the Post Office for donating some bulbs for our gardens, we will be planting these very soon and will eagerly await their blooms.
