Literacy

In Literacy we have been reading and enjoying a wide range of books including 'Winston and the indoor cat', 'Duck' and 'Jetty Jumping'. While reading these books we have been focusing on interesting and new vocabulary. Some words we have discussed include; pristine, exhilarating, leisurely, mysterious, gasps and mysterious. We have then used our sentence structure of 'who is doing what where' and our new and interesting words to build our own sentences.

Have a look at some of our fantastic sentences we have written using our new vocabulary.

Mathematics

In Mathematics we have been focusing on our number blast goals of counting by 10's forwards and backwards from 0 to 130 e.g. 10,20,30,40,50...130 and 130,120,110,100,90...0. Once the children were able to confidently count by 10's from 0 we continued to count by 10's  forwards and backwards  starting at different single digit number e.g. 2,12,22,32,42...122 and 126,116,106,96...6. Why not try this at home with your child.

We have also been focusing on collecting, sorting and displaying data. The students came up with their own question they would like to ask the class, collected the responses, sort this data using tally marks and then represented this data in their own graph.

Look at the wonderful maths work they have completed.

Inquiry/Ed in Faith

In Inquiry we have begun to explore how we 'Grow older and wiser'  this term. We began our unit by looking at our own baby photos and discussing how we have stayed the same and how we changed from a baby to now. We discussed what stays the same e.g. eye colour, hair colour, skin colour, finger prints that is unique to us and related to our parents. Then we discussed what things change e.g. our size, foods we eat, things we can do, what we wear.

We also played a round of guess who with our baby photos. Look at how cute everyone was a baby.

In Ed in Faith we have been focusing on our Catholic Identity and what makes St Francis Xavier Catholic Primary School, catholic. We have been exploring Prayer as part of our Catholic identity and all the ways we can pray. We have been saying some formal prayers, participating in Christian meditations, praying our lunchtime prayer lead by our year 6 students each day and participating in whole school prayer on a Wednesday morning.

We will continue to explore other aspects of Catholic Identity over the term.
