Faith Matters

at St Francis Xavier School

Dear St Francis Xavier Families,

There are so many wonderful faith related events occurring throughout the school so I'm going to share them with you.

WHOLE SCHOOL MASS

Our Welcoming Mass will be in the church on Wednesday, March 1st at 12pm. We would love to see as many families as possible.  During this service our staff will be commissioned to serve the school community and our Year 4 Reconciliation and Eucharist candidates will be presented to everyone. It will be a mass solely for our students, staff and families.

INVITATION FOR FAMILIES TO JOIN IN WEDNESDAY MORNING PRAYER

We have resumed our Wednesday morning whole school prayer and would love those of you who drop your children off on a Wednesday morning to come into your child's classroom and join in - toddlers and babies are welcome too. Wednesday morning prayer commences at 8:50am and goes for 5 -10 minutes. Our next one is on Wednesday, 1st March.  There is no morning prayer next week as we will be getting ready for the 9:15am Ash Wednesday Mass which you are also welcome to attend.

LENT/PROJECT COMPASSION

The season of Lent commences next Wednesday and we are encouraging the children to undertake good deeds during the 40 days leading up to Easter.  We are also promoting Project Compassion which is an annual event facilitated by Caritas (The Catholic Church's International Aid Agency). Caritas provides aid to various countries for a range of different projects caritas.org.au.  There are posters about the projects and donation boxes in each classroom and the children are invited to donate coins.

This week's whole school prayer, led by our school captains, explained Project Compassion to the classes and focused on one of our 'Catholic Social Teachings' - the call to family, community and participation. This teaching explains that people have a right and a duty to participate in society, seeking together the common good and well-being of all, especially those who are poor and vulnerable.

HOORAY FOR THE PREPS!

We are delighted with how beautifully our youngest class has settled into the routine of school.  If you've read Miss Melanie's page you will know Fr Chinua, our parish priest, recently visited the Preps to introduce himself.  I know he was thrilled when one of the children asked if he was God and another if he was a scientist!

Warmest wishes and God's blessings,
