Literacy

Over the past two weeks we have been working hard on the comprehension strategy of 'summarising'. Students have read many texts, a lot being related to ethical dilemmas which links to our inquiry unit. The grade 6 students are able to create short, sharp summaries that capture the main idea.

We have also begun our reading groups, where each group has a targeted goal that they are working on.

During writing, we have been working hard on generating ideas. This week students were given the opportunity to complete a big write to showcase their ideas.

Over the next few sessions students will continue on from this and start working on editing and providing feedback.

Mathematics

During the past fortnight, our students have been delving into our first unit for the year, Chance.

The students have been able to show us their learning in many different ways. The images  show students participating in a game of rock, paper, scissors. They used their chance knowledge to work out how often each one would win. They have also been transferring this data into fractions, decimals and percentages. We are looking forward to furthering this knowledge when we begin working on our next unit of work.

Inquiry

This week in Inquiry, students undertook a task that allowed them to unpack the word ‘comfortable’. We discussed that it can sometimes be a bad habit to be comfortable because we won’t always try new things. Students were presented with many posters with different headings, in which they wrote about how you could prevent this task from being hard (E.g trying new foods, talking In front of people, swimming in the ocean).

Zooper Doopers

Every Friday the grade 6 students will take it in turns to sell zooper doopers at the green gate. If it is their turn to do this, they are responsible for setting it up, selling them and also assisting in tidying up.

Zooper Doopers will cost 50cents each.

Assembly week 4

We invite all grade 6 parents to join us on Wednesday at our assembly to celebrate the students receiving their leadership badge. We are extremely proud of each student and would love for you to be there.

Have a fabulous weekend,

Miss Tamara and Miss Georgia
