BASEBALL

CIS Open Boys Baseball Trials

Ryan (G11) and Cooper (G8), recently trailed for the CIS Open Boys Baseball Team along with around 50 other boys. Despite the weather being less than ideal, with drizzling rain all day, the trials continued as planned. The players were split into groups based on their main positions and did specific drills for about an hour. After that, a game simulation was set up to give all the players a chance to play in two different positions.

Due to the weather worsening, the selectors had to end the trials one hour earlier than planned. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, Ryan and Cooper did not make it onto the CIS team.

BEACH VOLLYBALL

Congratulations to Jack (G11), in his recent successes in Beach Volleyball. He started playing a few months ago with some other Pittwater House friends and has progressed very fast. He’s been accepted to the Phoenix program - the NSW elite squad to train young athletes up to compete against other states in the Nationals. Jack has also just competed in the NSW Beach Volleyball Junior State Championships down in Kiama - winning a silver medal in the U17 boy’s category. Well done Jack.

CRICKET

CIS U12 Boys Cricket Trials

Last week, Xander (P6), Fred (P6) and Harrison (P6), all attended the CIS U12 Boys Cricket trials along with around 80 other players all trialing for a spot in the U12 Team. The day started with a warm-up game in four different fields for 30 minutes. After the warm-up, the CIS selector chatted with the boys and explained how the trials would work.

The players were then split into four groups, rotating activities between groups. The activities were specific drills for batting, throwing, and catching. Despite not being selected for day 2, the boys had a lot of fun, made friendships, and showed good team and sport spirit. The CIS selector had a nice chat with all the boys about the trials and encouraged them not to give up on sports. Well done boys.

The trial began with a warm-up session together, followed by some simple drills in groups of two. They finished with a drills circuit, working on all different softball skills.

Despite it being a quick and straightforward trial, the girls had fun and enjoyed themselves. The selectors had a tough decision to make, but ultimately Melanie, Shontelle, and Andie made it onto the AICES team, a significant accomplishment that they should be proud of.

CIS Open Girls Softball Trials

This week Shontelle (C12), Andie (C10) and Melanie (C8), trialled for the CIS Open Girls Softball Team. TENNIS

AICES Open Girls Tennis Championships

Amy (C8), recently participated in the AICES Open Girls Tennis Championship and made an impressive run in the competition. Amy won all four of her matches in the first round, securing the first position and progressing to the tournament's second round. She continued her exceptional performance in the second round by easily winning both the quarterfinals and semi-finals.

Although Amy gave it her all during the final match and put in a commendable effort, she was unfortunately unable to emerge victorious against her tough opponent and ultimately suffered a loss.

Amy's impressive performance throughout the tournament earned her second place in the competition and the opportunity to represent AICES at the upcoming CIS Open Girls Tennis Championship on the 1st of March.

Amy's excellent performance in the AICES Open Girls Tennis Championship is a testament to her hard work and dedication to the sport. She has clearly put in countless hours of practice and honed her skills to become a formidable opponent on the court. Well done Amy!

AICES Open Boys Tennis Championships

Congratulations to Aiden (G8) and Bede (G9), who played against some of the strongest players in the region at the AICES Open Boys Tennis Championships. With the lowest UTR rating at 5.2 and the highest at 10, the competition was sure to be fierce.

The players were separated into six groups of five to form the First Round, each hoping to make it to the Championship. Among these players were two young boys who were ready to give it their all. Despite facing tough opponents, they played well in the first round, winning two games and losing two games. Unfortunately, they both finished third in their respective groups and did not make it to the Championship.

Undeterred, the boys played in the Consolation Championship. Aiden played valiantly, but ultimately lost his first game and was out of the tournament. Bede, on the other hand, won his first game but lost the second, ending his tournament run as well.

Although they did not make it to the Championship, both boys played admirably throughout the tournament. Considering their young age and the high level of competition, it was truly a challenging day. Regardless, they performed well and gained valuable experience that they can use to improve in the future.

WATER POLO

Australian Youth Water Polo Championships

Congratulations to Ruby (C10), and her U16s girls UTS Balmain Water Polo team for winning Gold at The Australian Youth Water Polo Championships in Perth - 15-19 January 2023. Ruby scored an average of 2 goals per game, finishing her tournament by scoring 2 goals in the winning grand final and scoring the last goal to beat the Gold Coast Polar Bears 13-8! Ruby and her Balmain team came 3rd last year in the same age group, so to win the championship this year has proven what a tremendous team they are. Well done Ruby!

Congratulations also to Phileine (C10), and her SNB Breakers team on winning the Bronze at the Nationals. It's always an impressive accomplishment to compete at such a high level and come away with a medal.

It sounds like the competition was intense, with Phileine's team having to face off against Ruby's team multiple times, including in the semi-finals. It would have been exciting to see them potentially play each other in the finals, and I'm sure it would have been a great event for Pittwater House.

Furthermore, congratulations to Phileine for being in the top 10 for goals scored. That's a remarkable achievement, and it's clear she has great talent and skill in Water Polo. Well done to Philly and her team on a fantastic performance at the Nationals!
