Important Dates & Reminders Term 1 2023

Transition Tips

Back to school is an exciting time for students and families. It can be a big step – particularly for those starting prep or moving to secondary school.

For advice in multiple languages on how parents can help their child have a positive start to school, refer to Tips for starting school.

Canteen

Our new canteen is now operating under ‘I Love Lucy Catering’.  Lucy and her team are currently offering over the counter sales to students, parents and staff (the coffee is delicious!).

Next week, parents will receive information regarding how to order lunches for their children through the FlexiSchools system. Lucy is happy to chat with you about any questions you may have, just pop on over to see her.

Community Picnic

On Friday the 3rd of March we will be hosting a Community Picnic for our school community. Please save the date and more information about this will be shared.

Diaries

We are excited to have Gilgai Plains student diaries for sale. Our student diaries have been created to support our students and families with continuing their learning at home. The diaries include personalised information about our school and learning programs, as well as a weekly overview where students can track their home reading and add important dates. Student diaries can be purchased for $16 each from the office

Parent Payments

Thank you to all parents and carers who have already paid the school payments. We really do appreciate your support with this. All payments go directly to supporting our educational programs. Payments can be made at the office or through Compass.

Play Areas

Over the holidays we have had Edumarking come out to the school to complete some line markings. These colourful designs not only provide additional play options for our students during recess and lunch, but are also designed to help improve literacy and numeracy skills.

During the Term 1 school holidays, we will be getting our new playground installed. This will allow our Foundation to Year 2 students to have their own playground and allow our Year 3 to 6 students to use the current playground everyday.

Student Uniform

We are extremely proud of our Gilgai Plains Primary School uniform and love to see our students wear it with pride. It is compulsory for students to wear the school uniform. Parents and students may select items from the uniform list.

As we commence 2023, we would like to take this opportunity to remind families of the school’s uniform expectations.

Please note the following;

- school shoes must to be black

- socks must be black or white

- undergarments not to be visible

- jackets and jumpers must be the GPPS uniform.

As Gilgai Plains is a Sun Smart School, students are required to wear their Gilgai Plains bucket hat during all outside play during term 1 and term 4. If a student does not have their hat they will be directed to play under the shaded area.
