Foundation Teddy Bear Picnic and Stayback
On Tuesday, Foundation students enjoyed their Teddy Bear Picnic and Stayback.
During the day everyone had fun participating in various teddy themed activities including craft, cooking, STEM and teddy counting and pattern making. The students enjoyed bringing their teddy along to school where they were able to share in the fun of the day.
Foundation students remained at school at the end of the day for their Stayback. A delicious afternoon tea was shared and then lots of fun was had playing together.
Years 1 and 2
It has been a busy start to the year for our 1/2 students.
We are settling into the routines and structures which help us be our best and complete our learning tasks. Well done to everyone who is bringing their reader pocket into school daily and selecting new readers to take home each night.
In numeracy, we have been learning about time and place value. The Year 1 students did a great job ordering the days or the week and thinking about the time it takes to complete everyday tasks. The Year 2 students have been enjoying singing a months of the year song to help them correctly sequence the 12 months. They have also worked hard to match the months of the year to the four seasons.
Both years are currently working on a place value unit where we are looking at the value of numbers and writing our numbers correctly. Don’t be surprised if you find your children counting objects around the house to practice their counting patterns!
The Year 2 students made place value castles this week to develop their awareness of the value of digits in a given number.
In phonics we have been learning about syllables. We have practiced putting our hand under our chin when we say a word to help us feel how many syllables the word has. There was lots of fun playing our syllables game last week!
With the hot weather last week, it was great to see students with their drink bottles and hats. The library was a popular spot for our 1/2 students to cool off during some hot lunch times!
We are looking forward to our upcoming Year 1 and Year 2 staybacks in the coming weeks!
In Religious Education, the Years 1 and 2 students have enjoyed exploring the topic Jesus helps me to choose. We shared stories about forgiveness and identified and discussed the feelings we have when we hurt other people and then say sorry.
We learnt about the four steps to reconciliation:
1 - Admit
2 - Say Sorry
3 - Be forgiven
4 - Make up
Together we shared the parables of the Lost Sheep and the Forgiving Father. All students participated in a Godly Play on The Story of Zacchaeus.
