This Week in the Library
This week our stories have focussed on choosing what to read. Foundation students listened to a story about letters of the alphabet by Julia Donaldson called Animalphabet. One book was all it took by Wanda Shurety gave Years 1 and 2 students an image of how a chain of events can lead from just one book. In Years 3 and 4 students visited The Lost Library by Jess McGeachin where stories came to life as adventures on boats, in a forest and with a bookshelf dragon. Students loved finding the hidden dragon on each page.
Jo has created amazing displays inside and outside the Library. Outside in our display cabinet, we have a movie tie-in display linking great movies to the books which inspired them. Inside we have pulled together a range of red books for a fun display based on the colour of the cover.
Australian Reading Hour is coming on 9th March
“Australian Reading Hour has a short and sweet message: read, share, and enjoy books!
#AustralianReadingHour #ARH23 #ReadShareEnjoy
We’re asking all Australians across the nation to spend an hour on the day reading and sharing the stories they love with others. It’s a whole day, where the whole country talks about books together.” (Australia Reads, 2022, https://australiareads.org.au/get-involved/ accessed on 21/02/2023)
The website has some great ideas and information about reading, sharing and enjoying books. Take some time anytime on the day to use reading to look after your wellbeing.
They invite us to:
- Read something new, or revisit an old favourite!
- Share the experience of the book with others – chat about what you’re reading in your community, your school, with your family and friends. #ARH23
- Enjoy the wellbeing benefits that come with reading. Did you know reading reduces stress by up to 68%? (Australia Reads, 2022, https://australiareads.org.au/get-involved/ accessed on 21/02/2023)
This could be a fantastic opportunity to connect with your local Library. Check out their online reading material as well as the physical collections. Share your favourite authors or titles with friends and family. Try a book in another language or something from our First Nations authors.
