Principal's Report

Dear parents,
Shade sail installation
During the week we had two shade sails completed to provide additional shade for the students near the basketball court and in front of the Year 5/6 classrooms. The shade sails were provided through a successful grant application to the Department of Education shade sail fund. With the recent warm weather, the shade sails have already been a popular spot to sit during the warm lunch playtime.
Fire Danger Relocation Reflection – Friday 17th February
I would like to thank you all for your supportive approach to the extreme fire danger rating day last Friday. Thank you to you all for replying to the TEXT message sent to your phone to indicate whether you were sending your child/ren or not. Part of my roll on a relocation day is to confirm written receipt of response from each family, your TEXT confirmation is our way of tracking this. After I compile a list of all families, I then need to send a signed confirmation of this information to the Regional Director – North Western Victoria Region.
Friday was a challenging day as this was a late upgrade to the fire danger rating, the danger rating at 5:30am on Thursday was a “HIGH” fire danger for Friday, however BOM upgraded Friday to “EXTREME” at 1:00pm Thursday afternoon.
Another challenge for us is that the fire danger area used to make this decision is the Macedon Local Government Area, not the broader “Central” district as seen on the BOM website. This gives the Department a nuanced and granular approach to the fire danger ratings but makes it difficult to communicate to you as this information is not publicly available.
The buses down to Sunbury Heights PS ran smoothly and the students were taught in very modern, air conditioned and comfortable classrooms. It is important to note that while it is a little inconvenient for you to pick up your child in Sunbury, we do this to avoid transporting the children back into an EXTREME fire danger area on mass.
If you did not receive any correspondence via text message or Xuno please contact the front office and let us know. It is important that all parents received these messages so we can get you information in these emergency scenarios.
School Council – Nomination period extended.
The nomination period for the school council elections has been extended until the 3rd of March. We’re yet to have any nominations for the four vacant parent positions. I encourage you to nominate yourself if you have thought about joining the school council and have the time to support the school in this way. If you have any questions about what the role entails, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards and Sampai jumpa (until next time),
Matt
