Indonesian Update

In case you missed the parent information sessions this week:
Learning another language is good exercise for our brains. It helps us understand how English works and opens our minds to different ways of doing things.
The Indonesian language is really important for Australians to learn because Indonesia is one of our closest neighbours and it is the 4th most populated country in the world.
You can help your child learn Indonesian by encouraging them to teach you something they have learned. Keep an eye on the school newsletter for tips about what we’ve been doing in class.
In Foundation our focus is on:
- Taking turns and playing games
- Using mime and actions to demonstrate understanding
- Learning through song
- Learning where Indonesia and Australia are and learning about some Indonesian animals and fruits
In Year 1 and 2 our focus is on:
- Using everyday expressions such as greetings, saying how we feel and asking permission
- Introducing and giving descriptions of self, family members and pets
- Learning about different islands in Indonesia
In Year 3 and 4 our focus is on:
- Talking about the things we like; noticing the things we have in common and what makes us unique
- Talking about places and the things we do there
- Distinguishing nouns and verbs
- Learning about Indonesian environments
in Year 5 and 6 our focus is on:
- Revising the basics so we can create content for younger students
- Talking about a journey: where to go, what to take, how to get there
- Using adjectives and adverbs to make comparisons
- Describing our favourite places to an Indonesian audience
