Class 5/6B with Mel

Connection to Country

In Grade 5/6M, we have started the year off by setting up some clear routines and expectations within our class.

Part of this is writing an Acknowledgement to Country and having a clear understanding of what our Indigenous culture means to us and our school.

We spent time in the outdoors creating some artwork of local community by using pastels and water colours.

We spent some time reading Indigenous story books and literature. We are learning a lot about Indigenous language, their values, and their way of living.

We have also looked at examples of how we feel connected to our country.

We hope that everyone can take some time this weekend, to think about what they love about our community and how they feel connected to country.

Thank you

In Grade 5/6M, we feel honoured to Acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land. The Dhudhuroa, Waywurru, and Jaithmathang people, both past, present, and emerging.

We have eternal gratitude for the local mobs of the Kiewa Valley, who cared for our water ways and nurtured our land.

When the kookaburra sings, we know that the Aboriginal people are welcoming us to this place and trusting that we care for this country, only taking what we need always giving back.

We have respect and admiration for our guardian mountains like Mount Bogong, who looks over us.

Whether we are learning in our classroom, swimming in our rivers, or riding up and down our hills, we promise to be connected and take great care of our beautiful country.

Preps with Ellen

Preps this week where excited to help with our Welcome Afternoon Tea event, creating some delicious treats. They also spent some time with their 5/6 buddies creating special decorations. It's great to see they have a strong connection to our school community in such a short space of time.
